Bloomfield’s Kaman buying NY’s Zeller Corp.

Bloomfield’s Kaman Corp. is buying an upstate New York distributor of electrical and automation gear, adding to its own list of those manufacturing brands.

Kaman declined to say Monday what it agreed to pay for Zeller Corp., of Rochester, N.Y., whose 2012 sales are projected at $80 million. When the deal is done this quarter, Zeller will be folded into the Kaman Industrial Technologies Corp. (KIT) division.

Zeller brands include motion control, programmable logic controller (PLC) based automation, machine vision, electrical controls and power distribution products.

It is a premier Schneider Electric distribution partner. Zeller also represents other manufacturers including Kollmorgen, Phoenix Contact, Rittal and Sick.

Zeller employs 240, one quarter of them 60 degreed engineers. Aside from Rochester, its operations are in Foxborough, Mass.; Syracuse and Buffalo, N.Y.; and Winston-Salem, N.C.

Zeller President Gary Haseley after the deal will join KIT’s management team as Zellers’ vice president and general manager.

KIT President Steve Smidler said Zeller complements and strengthens KIT’s other recent electrical, automation and motion-control acquisitions — Minarik, Target Electronic Supply and Automation Technology.

Kaman also makes aeroparts and distributes oilfield-drilling equipment.
