A Bloomfield resident has launched an Internet crowdfunding campaign to raise $1 million to further develop a mobile app that alerts others if a user spots a gunman in their vicinity.
O’Rane M. Cornish Jr. said in a press release that the Indiegogo campaign is meant to fund final development, release, promotion and distribution of the app, which he calls Civilian Guns.
The app would connect users within a half-mile radius, allowing them to alert each other if one spots a person with a gun, according to the website. The app would also notify law enforcement if a user raised an alert.
Cornish wrote on the fundraising page that his younger brother, O’Neal Marc Cornish was shot to death in a robbery at age 17. Cornish was shot in 2001 in Memphis Tenn., according to court records.
