A gas station in Bloomfield is seeking zoning variances to convert its existing building into a convenience store and add a new fuel canopy.
The property owner, 86 Granby Street LLC, plans to transform the 2,028-square-foot building — currently used for automotive repair services — at 92 Granby St. into a convenience store that would operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to town documents. The project also includes a 56-foot by 26-foot canopy with two fuel dispensers.
The Bloomfield Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on the application at its Dec. 1 meeting at 7:30 p.m.
The convenience store conversion would involve interior and exterior renovations to the existing building, which currently has two garage bays and an office. The building would feature a brick and stone stucco finish with a 5-foot-wide sidewalk around its perimeter.
The project would also add six electric vehicle charging stations along the southeast property line and create a second entrance and exit for improved traffic flow.
The 0.7-acre property already received town approval in April 2024 for a use variance allowing a full-service gasoline station with a retail convenience store. The current application seeks variances needed to construct the improvements.
Under the proposal, existing compressed natural gas dispensers would be replaced with diesel pumps. The fuel canopy configuration "will allow for patrons to be protected from the elements and traverse from the pumps into the convenience store under cover," according to the narrative.
The property has a long history as a vehicle service station, with land use approvals dating back to 1976.
The property is owned by 86 Granby Street LLC, whose principal is Hasan Kuruca of Enfield. The applicant is Oguz Kuruca.
