Bloomfield furniture maker Salamander Designs unveiled a 123 kilowatt solar array on Thursday, hoisting crowds of onlookers to its roof for an upfront look at the installation.
The system, installed by Energy Systems & Installation of Pennsylvania, is expected to fulfill 100 percent of the electricity needs for the Bloomfield facility.
The fight ESI and Salamander had with the town of Bloomfield over how the solar system would increase the facilities property tax bill was one of the factors leading to the Connecticut legislature early this year making all solar systems exempt from personal property tax.
The unveiling ceremony on Thursday was attended by 50 business professionals and government officials, who were taken to the roof of the facility via a 35-foot lift. The Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. of Bloomfield and Peel Liqueur of New Britain donated the drinks for the event.
