Blizzard chills CT casinos’ Feb. take

Connecticut’s two resort casinos raked in about 20 percent less in slot revenues in February, where they faced a blizzard and had one less day to make money.

Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket on Friday reported slots revenues of $38.5 million, a 24 percent drop from the $50.6 million the casino made in February 2012.

Mohegan Sun in the Uncasville section of Montville on Friday reported slots revenues of $45.4 million, a 19 percent drop from the $55.8 million the casino made in February 2012.

The two Connecticut casinos have experienced steady drops in year-over-year slots revenues for the past five years, but decreases of about 20 percent are larger than usual. In early February, Connecticut was hit by a blizzard, which impacted people’s ability to travel to the casinos. The number also are compared to February 2012, which had an extra day due to leap year.
