Blasius named Baldrige winner

The Waterbury Regional Chamber has named Fritz Blasius, owner of Blasius Chevrolet Cadillac, as the recipient of its Malcolm Baldrige Community Award.

In addition, Mary Rosengrant-Chiappalone with Biondi & Rosengrant is recipient of the Leadership Award, and John Famiglietti of Drubner Commercial is recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award.

All three winners will be honored during the 18th annual Malcolm Baldrige Chamber awards banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.

Craven to lead defense lawyers

Jim Craven, a lawyer in the Litigation Department at Wiggin and Dana, was recently appointed president of the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association for a one-year term. The CDLA is a volunteer not-for-profit, statewide organization of attorneys primarily engaged in the defense of individuals and businesses in civil litigation, or who serve as counsel for insurance carriers and business organizations.

Brown named to mentor role

Fred Brown, director of marketing and member development at Northeast Family Federal Credit Union, has been chosen to be a mentor in the fall session of the development educators school taking place this month in Madison, Wisc. Every year people from all parts of the world become certified as Credit Union Development educators. These individuals commit volunteer and professional time to take the credit union message to audiences throughout the world.

CT Health Foundation appoints O’Keefe

The board of directors of the Connecticut Health Foundation has selected Elaine O’Keefe, executive director of the Office of Community Health in the School of Public Health at Yale University, to serve a one-year term on its board. O’Keefe also serves as the executive director of the Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, which was established in 2008 to enhance practice-based education, research and academic-community health partnerships.

Gerber receives INROADS award

Tolland’s Gerber Scientific Inc. recently received the Corporate Conversion Award for the New England region from INROADS, a non-profit organization that prepares diverse, underserved college students for full-time work in corporate environments. The award recognized Gerber for converting the highest percentage of interns to full-time positions in 2011.

Silver / Petrucelli earns design honor

Gerber provides automated manufacturing systems to the aerospace, apparel, composites, packaging, technical textiles and specialty graphics industries.

INROADS is the nation’s largest nonprofit source of salaried corporate internships, providing underserved students with the business soft skills and competencies necessary to be successful in advanced careers.

Silver / Petrucelli + Associates in Hamden has received an Award of Merit from the Connecticut Building Congress for the design of Stratfield Elementary School in Fairfield. The award was presented at the Project Team Awards Banquet at the Bond Ballroom in Hartford.
