Black Bamboo restaurant owner pays $950K for neighboring WH retail building

The owner of a Chinese restaurant in West Hartford has acquired a nearby retail building.

Sonny Chen, owner of Black Bamboo Chinese Restaurant at 766 Farmington Ave., acquired 772 Farmington Ave. for $950,000 on Nov. 26 from Berthel Associates LLC of West Hartford, which is managed by Deborah Greenspan.

The approximately 5,600-square-foot retail building has three existing tenants, including a self-service laundromat, liquor store and hair salon.

Chen said Tuesday he acquired the building, which is among a row of four commercial buildings, as an investment property. The tenants will be unaffected by the sale, he said.

The acquisition is Chen’s second in four months. In September, he acquired 766 Farmington Ave., the new home of his restaurant, for $650,000.

Black Bamboo this summer completed its move from 844 Farmington Ave., just two blocks from the new location.

The restaurant has been a local favorite since Chen opened it in 2010.
