As the Thanksgiving holiday nears, corporations around Connecticut are getting into the spirit of the season by giving food to needy families in the state.
Charter Oak Health Center will distribute 300 turkeys to needy families on Tuesday outside of its main building on Grant Street in Hartford. The center started this tradition in 2003 and has given away 1,300 over the lifetime of the program.
Farmington-based KBE Corp. completed its fourth annual “Gift of Gobble” program on Tuesday by giving away 168 boxes of food for needy families. Each box included a turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, corn, beans, potatoes, yams, rolls, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and a roasting pan.
Bloomfield nonprofit Foodshare had a record-setting day on Sunday with 2,421 turkeys donated from businesses and individuals. The organization met its goal of 19,000 turkeys donated when All Waste, Inc. of Hartford donated 500 turkeys on Tuesday. Other major donors were Connecticut Light & Power at 5,000 turkeys, Stop & Shop at 1,000 turkeys, and 900 from Billy Grant’s Restaurant Group.
