Biotech company announces new CT location

A biotechnology company has announced that it will open a manufacturing and distribution operation in Stamford, according to AdvanceCT, a nonprofit that promotes business in Connecticut.

The company, Abyrx, develops, manufactures and provides advanced biomaterials and therapeutic devices for use during surgical procedures.

Abyrx will lease 7,000 square feet of space and plans to create 17 to 25 jobs.

Abryx cited Connecticut’s network of entrepreneurs, services providers and academic labs as reasons for choosing the location.

“Abyrx is an innovative company with proprietary technology,” said Peter Denious, CEO of AdvanceCT. “Abyrx is an excellent fit for Connecticut because the company will be able to recruit the talent they need here and tap into world-class research resources at one of our 38 colleges and universities.”

John Pacifico, president and chief executive officer of Abyrx, said the state has “significant intellectual resources.”

“We look forward to tapping into this vibrant life sciences ecosystem to continue to advance the company and expand our team,” he said.

Abyrx was created in 2013 and is privately held. The company has more than 50 issued and pending patents, according to its website.
