Celldex Therapeutics has been a tenant at 300 George Street for some 10 years, but the space is now needed by landlord Yale.
Bioscience company Celldex Therapeutics, which currently has a New Haven facility at 300 George St., is planning a move to 545 Long Wharf Drive.
The New Jersey-based company develops antibody treatments for allergic, inflammatory and autoimmune disorders.
Celldex, which was founded in 1983, has been a tenant at George Street for some 10 years. The nine-story downtown building was
bought by Yale University in 2023 for $139.6 million. Celldex says it was recently notified that Yale wants to use the company’s current space for its own purposes.
Celldex plans to move to the vacant fourth floor of the Long Wharf Drive building, occupying 40,000 square feet. It will move 42 employees to the new location.
It has filed a plan with the city to convert some 6,700 square feet of the space into a laboratory, with the rest remaining as office space.
The conversion to a laboratory would require a zoning modification from the city.
Celldex is working with Pimental Construction and Cornerstone Architects on the project.
