Biorez appoints physician to board of directors

Biorez Inc., a New Haven-based startup focused on tendon and ligament healing, has appointed medical device industry veteran Dr. Nicholas Pachuda to its board of directors.

A podiatric surgeon by training, Pachuda has spent the last 20 years in commercial leadership positions for companies such as DePuy Synthes and Arthrex.

“I have spent most of my career evaluating new technologies in orthopedics and have long awaited an implant that can meaningfully improve soft tissue healing,” Pachuda said in an announcement.

“Biorez has developed a regenerative scaffold that can reinforce soft tissue repair, improve healing, and naturally resorb over time,” he added. “Based on the company’s progress and preclinical results, I am excited to join the board during this important stage for the company.”

Kevin Rocco, president and CEO of Biorez, said Pachuda’s addition to the board is “well-timed” as the company is preparing to launch its BioBrace Implant in the U.S. market this year.

Biorez’s BioBrace Implant is designed to reinforce and regenerate soft tissue repairs. It is still in the development stage and has not yet been approved for use by regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
