New Haven-based biopharmaceutical company Biohaven Ltd. on Thursday announced changes to its scientific leadership team.
Bruce Car, Ph.D., is retiring as chief scientific officer but will continue to serve as an executive officer after transitioning to chief innovation officer, a newly created part-time position, the company said. The change is effective July 13.
In his new role, Car will focus on advancing Biohaven’s scientific initiatives and external collaborations, including leading multiple assets under the company’s collaboration with New Haven-based startup Bexorg Inc.
Car said the timing of his retirement reflects his “complete confidence” in the company’s discovery research platforms and leadership.
Officials also said David Pirman, Ph.D., who has served as vice president for biology and biochemistry since August 2022, has been promoted to senior vice president and head of discovery.
In his new role, Pirman will lead the company’s internal drug-discovery organization and oversee its research program.
Lastly, Warren Volles, general counsel and chief legal officer, has been designated an executive officer of Biohaven and will continue to lead the company’s legal function.
Dr. Vlad Coric, chairman and CEO of Biohaven, said Car played a “central role” in building the company’s scientific foundation and helping translate discovery insights into multiple investigational new drug-stage programs across the company’s portfolio.
Biohaven Ltd. is the company that remained after the original Biohaven sold its migraine therapeutic drug to pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. in 2022, in a deal valued at $13 billion.
In June 2025, Biohaven and Bexorg announced a research collaboration to identify and advance therapies for central nervous system disorders.
