Law firm Bingham McCutchen, which has an office in downtown Hartford, said it has been acquired by Philadelphia-based Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, which has 2,000 lawyers in offices around the globe.
Bingham’s 226 partners and 525 other attorneys and staff will become a part of Morgan Lewis, which until now has not had a Hartford location.
Bingham employs 30 partners and attorneys in Hartford at its offices in State House Square. The two firms said they have some large clients in common who will be better served by the combination.
Bingham clients gain access to Morgan Lewis’ services in white-collar litigation, energy, FDA, immigration, healthcare and other areas, the companies said. Meanwhile, Morgan Lewis clients get access to Bingham’s services in telecommunications, securities enforcement, intellectual property, tax planning and other areas.
Correction: The original version of this story inaccurately portrayed the hiring of several Boston-area Bingham attorneys by the law firm Day Pitney as an acquisition. It was not a financial transaction.Â
