The state on Tuesday ordered an indefinite closure and suspension of the liquor license for Plainville’s Central Cafe, a popular local watering hole that was the scene of a biker brawl days earlier, authorities say.
The state Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), whose Liquor Control Division oversees package-store licensing and liquor sales, said Tuesday it ordered the actions after it was contacted Monday by Plainville police, who reported the May 16 nighttime incident.
According to authorities, police said two Central Cafe patrons were injured during the melee, after which numerous motorcyclists fled the scene. Nearly the entire Plainville Police Department’s evening shift responded to the incident, officials said.
DCP Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, citing public-safety concerns, said Central Café will remain closed and under suspension indefinitely, pending a full investigation and the filing of a resolution plan by cafe operators.
