In addition to acquiring new skills, summer workers may be getting bigger paychecks.
Twenty-four percent of employers plan to pay their summer hires and interns more than they did last year, according to a CareerBuilder.com survey. Nearly half plan to dish out $10 or more per hour and 7 percent will pay $20 or more per hour.
Hospitality and retail lead in the number of hiring managers recruiting summer workers. Among all employers, general office support, customer service and landscape maintenance are the three most popular summer positions offered. Twenty-three percent of hiring managers plan to hire summer workers this year and of those hiring, 66 percent are considering their summer recruits for permanent placement within their organizations.
