Big Y Foods Inc. plans to open a new supermarket at the Westfarms mall in Farmington, marking the company’s latest expansion in central Connecticut.
The 53,000-square-foot store will be a free-standing, new-construction building on the southern side of the shopping center and is expected to open in spring 2027, according to the Springfield, Massachusetts-based grocer. The company has submitted an application to the Farmington Inland Wetlands Commission.
“This new location will deepen our connection with customers in central Connecticut,” said Mathieu L. D’Amour, Big Y’s vice president of real estate and development.
The Westfarms project comes amid a broader growth push for Big Y in Connecticut. The grocer has recently opened locations in Brookfield, Middletown and Westport.
