Supermarket chain Big Y Foods, which has more than 30 stores in Connecticut, said it has partnered with a web and mobile discount deals aggregator to combat the effect of big box retailers and Amazon’s entry into the grocery market.
Through its subscription mobile and web app, Chicago-based Aisle50 offers grocery coupons for products made by its partner manufacturers, including Procter & Gamble, Kraft, Unilever, Starbucks, Pepsico, Nestle, Kellogg’s, General Mills and Clorox.
Big Y hopes the service gives it a leg up against big chains and web retailers, which can offer lower prices on some items based on scale and volume. The deals cannot be used, or “stacked,” with other coupons.
“We have consumers that demand a lot out of their retailers, and partnering with Aisle50 keeps our offerings a step ahead of competitors and will further enrich the shopping experience at Big Y,” John Schnepp, advertising director, said in a statement.
Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed, but it represents Aisle50’s first move into New England, according to its website.
