Big Y opening Meriden store

Supermarket retailer Big Y Foods Inc. says it will open later this year one of its World Class Markets in Meriden that will employ between 150 and 175 workers.

The newest store will occupy 55,000 square feet in the Townline Square shopping center on North Colony Road and South Broad Street that grocer ShopRite vacated last year.

Big Y says the store will represent an investment of about $5 million.

In November, Big Y opened four markets in former A&P locations in West Hartford, Branford, Old Lyme, and the Mystic section of Groton.
