‘Big Sister’ Laura Green takes CT AARP post

Laura Green barely has her foot out the door in retirement from Nutmeg Big Brothers/Big Sisters but has agreed to take a new post as Connecticut president for the American Association of Retired Persons.

Green, who is due to retire in June after 16 years at Nutmeg as president and CEO, will right after begin her new job overseeing the state’s largest advocacy organization for people aged 50-plus.

Green has been a defining force in the nonprofit community for better than 30 years, was the executive director of the YWCA of Eastern Fairfield County before coming to Nutmeg.

AARP State Director Brenda Kelley said in a statement Green’s “deep commitment to helping others and a willingness to give back to her community will be a great asset to our nearly 600,000 members in Connecticut and all 50-plus residents.”

Green, a mother of two daughters and a grandmother, resides in Manchester. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Connecticut.
