Big East extends deal with Mohegan Sun to host women’s basketball tourney for another 3 years

The Big East Conference has extended its agreement to host the women’s basketball tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena for another three years, meaning the event will remain at the Uncasville venue through at least 2026.

The Big East tournament was held at the XL Center in Hartford from 2004 to 2013. It has taken place at Mohegan Sun Arena since UConn rejoined the Big East in 2020.

Mohegan Sun is set to host the tournament again in 2023, which marks the end of its current three-year deal with the conference.

“Over the last two years, Mohegan Sun Arena has proven to be a tremendous home for the Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament,” said the conference’s commissioner, Val Ackerman. “The facility and amenities are world class, and the unmatched support for women’s basketball in Connecticut has created an exciting atmosphere for our coaches, student-athletes and fans.”

The 2023 Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament is slated for March 3 to 6. Last season, the tournament saw its highest attendance since 2013, the league said.

Mohegan Sun Arena has 10,000 seats, about 6,000 seats fewer than the XL Center.

During the 2021-22 season, four Big East women’s basketball teams competed in the NCAA tournament. The Huskies advanced to the Final Four for the 14th consecutive year.
