Connecticut companies with 500 or more workers paid a higher average salary in 2012 than any other state, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Big companies in the state paid an average of $66,553. Those companies comprised between 50 and 55 percent of the state’s total employment base.
Meanwhile, Connecticut companies with fewer than 500 workers paid an average salary of $48,711, behind New York ($48,790) and Massachusetts ($49,444).
Vermont was the only state where the average salary was higher at smaller companies, the Census Bureau said.
