Ernst & Young, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, has confirmed it will relocate its Hartford office to neighboring West Hartford in 2027, signaling another setback for the Capital City’s struggling office market.
The firm has signed a 10-year lease for 14,235 square feet at 1001 Farmington Ave., in West Hartford Center, a mixed-use hub with strong office appeal thanks to its mix of restaurants, retail and walkable amenities.
“We are thrilled to announce EY Hartford’s upcoming move to 1001 Farmington Ave in West Hartford in 2027,” Sean Riegler, managing partner of Ernst & Young’s Hartford office, said in a statement to the Hartford Business Journal. “The buildout will offer state-of-the-art amenities, technology and design and was chosen as a result of ongoing dialogue between EY Hartford leaders and professionals. Our new space will enable EY Hartford professionals to continue helping our clients shape the future with confidence.”
EY currently maintains Connecticut offices in downtown Hartford’s Stilts Building and in Stamford.
The firm’s decision comes at a time state and city officials are focused on addressing Hartford’s struggling office market, while
neighboring West Hartford Center’s far smaller office capacity is in high demand.
To prepare for EY’s arrival, Westport-based developer Mark K. Lewis is investing $1 million to upgrade the 1985-vintage, three-story building at 1001 Farmington Ave. Lewis said construction will be completed in March 2026, at which point the space will be turned over to EY for an extensive interior renovation tailored to the firm’s needs.
