President Joe Biden plans to visit Connecticut on Friday and is expected to make stops in Hartford and Storrs, according to a statement from the White House.
Biden intends to promote his “Build Back Better” agenda — which centers on lowering costs for the working class and creating new jobs — while in Hartford. It was not immediately clear Tuesday where in the city Biden would appear.
The president will then travel to Storrs to mark the dedication of The Dodd Center for Human Rights, an umbrella organization for UConn’s various human rights programs named for former U.S. senators Thomas J. Dodd and Christopher Dodd.
Christopher Dodd is a longtime Biden friend and confidante, and served on his former colleague’s vice presidential selection committee in 2020.
“We are deeply honored that President Biden is joining us as we dedicate ourselves to extending the Dodd family legacy,” said Andrew Agwunobi, UConn’s interim president.
The event is open by invitation only, according to a statement from the university.
The center had been known as the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center since its opening in 1995. UConn’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously in August to dedicate it to the father-and-son senators, and to the Dodd family.
