BIC sells French HQ for $206M

Manufacturing giant BIC, whose U.S. operations are based in Shelton, has struck a deal to sell its world headquarters and a technology complex near Paris for €175 million, or roughly $206 million based on current exchange rates.

The maker of lighters, shavers, pens and other stationery products said the sale to two French companies, BNP Paribas Real Estate and Citallios, would net a capital gain of €169 million ($199 million).

Both the headquarters and BIC Technologies sites are based in the French city of Clichy and encompass approximately 9.4 acres. BIC said it expects the deal will close during the first quarter of next year.

The company announced in February it leased a portion of a building in Porte de Clichy that will become its new headquarters in 2022. The BIC Technologies team will move to BIC’s site in Montévrain, France.
