While the standard BIC lighter easily lights a cigarette, using one to set a candle ablaze can be challenging.
The Shelton-based manufacturer BIC aims to change that with the recent launch of a new, longer lighter, its EZ Reach model.
According to the company, the new product is designed to light hard-to-reach places – such as inside a candle jar or grill – while keeping the user’s fingers away from any flames.
“The new design directly meets consumers’ requests for a lighter that lights at any angle,” the company said in an announcement.
The design is a combination of the standard BIC Pocket Lighter and the longer-reaching BIC multi-purpose lighter.
The new model lighter has a 1.45-inch extended wand. It is designed to be small enough to fit in consumers’ bags and pockets, but also large enough to provide more room between the object being lit and one’s hand.
Mary Fox, general manager of BIC North America, said the company is focused on innovation and excited to launch the new product into the market.
Currently available in Walmart, the new product will be sold at more locations this fall.
BIC, which manufactures stationery, lighters and shavers for customers around the globe, also has expanded its product line in recent months to include art supplies for children in the U.S. market.
