Bethel chooses Maryland firm for charging station

The town of Bethel has chosen Maryland-based SemaConnect to install an electric vehicle charging station for public use.

The push by Bethel for a charging station comes as part of the EV Connecticut program to install 200 charging stations throughout the state, to encourage drivers to switch to electric vehicles by ensuring there will be enough stations for them to energize their cars.

With the program awarding in excess of $200,000 in grants, the state now has 160 publicly available charging stations. Bethel joins 50 other municipalities to offer one in their city or town.

SemaConnect offers networked charging stations with web-based management software that can manage time-of-use pricing and run sustainability reports on greenhouse gas emissions.

While Bethel chose a Maryland company, Connecticut is home to charging station installers such as CT Electric Car of Newington and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment of Enfield.
