from Best Places to Work in Connecticut
Delivered by Peter Burke
March 24, 2009

Assessment Process
The assessment process involved a two part survey. The first part gathered company information about policies and benefits which represented 25% of the evaluation. Best Company Group then conducted a 67 question employee engagement and satisfaction survey, the results of which made up the other 75% of the evaluation.

From the two surveys, BCG was able to determine the companies that were good enough to be considered “great places to work,” and those companies are being recognized and ranked here today (25 companies, all winners, and all great places to work).

People like where they work because they are treated with respect. We also find that people love to come to work where they have faith and trust in the leadership of the company, and people will stay with an organization for a long time if they have a sustainable and trustworthy relationship with their supervisor.

While extensive and generous benefits packages are attractive and contribute to an employees satisfaction, it is far overshadowed by the companies ability to create the relationships, trust and communication that have a positive impact on the employee experience. Not an easy task, but all the companies represented here tonight have been successful in doing just that.

To be eligible, you needed to have at least 15 employees working in Connecticut. The program was open to all for-profit and non-profit organizations including government entities and municipalities and being headquartered in Connecticut was not a requirement.
