Berlin packaging provider bought by Norwich competitor

Berlin packaging and safety supplies provider MRS Industries Inc. has been acquired by Norwich’s Consumers Interstate Corp., the two announced.

CIC is a wholesale distributor of business supplies and offers a lean procurement service, according to its website.

CIC President Jim Morrissey said in a statement that adding MRS’ expertise in safety supplies will help CIC enhance its cost-reduction services for supplies purchasers.

Both companies are run by the second generation of their founding families. CIC was founded in 1947 by Jack Fischburg and has been run by his son, Kenn Fischburg, since 1974. MRS was founded in 1971 by Mike and Peg Shelto and is now run by their sons Dave and Andy Shelto, both of whom will join CIC.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The Hartford Business Journal reached out to CIC Monday morning for comment.
