Massachusetts lender Berkshire Bank is offering free to its customers, including ones in Connecticut, software to shield against online banking fraud.
Berkshire said it is offering the IBM Security Trusteer Rapport software currently serving more than 30 million users worldwide.
The software purges existing malware from consumers’ computers, while blocking future infections, officials said. It also alerts users when they enter a bogus website, and relays that info to Berkshire’s security team.
Based in Pittsfield, Mass., the $6.3 billion-asset bank has 90 branches in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont.
