Bellemare lands at Bombardier

Canadian plane and train maker Bombardier said it has hired United Technologies’ former aerospace chief as CEO.

Alain Bellemare — who left UTC at the start of the month after the company eliminated its UTC Propulsion & Aerospace Systems organizational unit — is replacing Bombardier’s Pierre Beaudoin, who will become executive chairman, replacing his retiring father, Laurent Beaudoin.

“Throughout [Bellemare’s] 18-year career at United Technologies Corp., notably at Pratt & Whitney, he displayed exceptional management skills, with a clear focus on profitability,” Pierre Beaudoin said in a statement.

The announcement comes about a month after Bombardier’s stock plummeted 25 percent on a decision to postpone its LearJet85 program and lay off 1,000 people, according to Reuters.

Bellemare’s new and former employers have a relationship. Pratt is supplying its PurePower engines for the Bombardier CSeries jet, which is in development.
