Essex diesel engine parts maker Bell Power Systems has begun installation on a solar array atop its newly expanded 72,000-square-foot facilities, following a special assessment from the Office of Energy & Efficient Business.
The installation, to be completed mid-July, will double the energy savings of the Essex facility, producing 134,000 kilowatt hours in its first year and 2.6 million kilowatt hours over 20 years.
Bell Power decided to install the solar array after the Connecticut Office of Energy & Efficient Business performed on energy-savings assessment for the facility, which had just upgraded its HVAC systems.
OEEB was created in 2013 as a way for Connecticut to reach smaller businesses with its energy efficiency messaging and programs. The office is staffed by the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology and funded by the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and the U.S. Department of Energy.
