Bear’s Smokehouse eyes Windsor Locks location

Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ is eyeing a new Windsor Lock’s restaurant just outside Bradley International Airport.

The popular barbecue chain has filed for a special use permit application with the town Planning and Zoning Commission, seeking the ability to open a “full-service restaurant” in a 4,804-square-foot location inside a retail plaza at 5 National Drive.

The location is along the heavily developed Route 75 corridor, an area already thick with hospitality, restaurant and other commercial uses.

A Bear’s representative declined comment Friday.

Bear’s operates two locations in Asheville, North Carolina and five in Connecticut, in Windsor, South Windsor, Hartford, New Haven and Storrs.

Nearly two years ago, the restaurant chain paid $1.75 million for a 24,436-square-foot industrial building in Windsor Locks to expand their preparation and distribution operations.
