An Oxford grocery store said it’s acquired a family-run pharmacy in neighboring Beacon Falls for an undisclosed price.
Beacon Falls Pharmacy, which has been in business nearly 14 years, shuttered its 20 North Main Street location after the close of business on Tuesday.
It’s now encouraging customers to visit Market 32’s pharmacy at Quarry Walk on Route 67 in Oxford. One pharmacist and two pharmacy technicians from the closed pharmacy will be working at the Market 32 location.
Beacon Falls Pharmacy posted the news on its Facebook page last week.
“After nearly 14 years, filling 700 of your prescriptions with care each week, it has become painfully evident that the abusive tactics of pharmacy benefit managers have reached the point where our business is no longer sufficiently viable to continue,” the post said.
Pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs, negotiate pricing and rebates with drug makers on behalf of insurance plans.
Beacon Falls Pharmacy co-owner Robert Bradley told the Connecticut Health I-Team in April that he had been forced to pay $90,000 in performance-based fees to PBMs last year, up from just $6,000 in 2016.
The fees, criticized by pharmacies as unfair and confusing, have led to a wave of independent pharmacy closures, the paper reported.
