Bathroom causes evacuation of Statehouse Square

A fire alarm evacuation gave some State House Square employees an impromptu break shortly before 10 a.m. this morning, when a smoke detector went off in a first floor men’s bathroom in the retail area of 10 State House Square, according to Hartford Deputy Fire Chief Scott Brady. The cause was unclear – possibly someone naughtily ‘smoking in the boys’ room’ or steam from hot water, Brady said – but firefighters deemed all safe within 10-15 minutes. Some workers in othe parts of the interconnected 10 and 90 State House Square buildings said they weren’t aware of any fire alarms and had not been evacuated.
