More than a year after selling its property just three minutes north of the mall, Barnes & Noble is preparing to open its new location inside Westfarms.
The bookseller closed its 21,600-square-foot building at 1599 Southeast Road in Farmington this spring, opting to relocate into a 22,512-square-foot space in the Macy’s wing of the mall. It
sold its previous location to a company controlled by the family that owns Hannoush Jewelers for $3.4 million last May.
The store, which will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. on July 29, is located in space formerly occupied by Forever 21.
It will be the sixth Barnes & Noble to open in Connecticut over the last three years, including a store in Stamford that opened last year.
Barnes & Noble has opened 18 stores nationally so far this year and plans to open 60 stores overall in 2026. It now has 716 bookstores, the company said.
