Barnes Group Inc. named Hassell H. McClellan, an ex-banker who is a Boston College management professor, a director of the Bristol manufacturer and logistics-services company.
McClellan’s appointment expands Barnes’ board to 10.
Chairman Thomas O. Barnes said McClellan’s expertise in strategic management and global competitiveness will be valuable to the company whose division make automotive and industrial components and provides shipping other logistics services to commercial clients.
He was a banker with Harris Trust in Chicago and on the faculty of Harvard Business School before joining  Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.
McClelland also is a trustee of The Phoenix Edge Series Fund run by Hartford’s Phoenix Cos. Inc.
He holds a doctorate of business administration from the Harvard, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Fisk University in Tennessee.
