Bar where underaged patron died will close

Hartford’s Angry Bull Saloon, which has been closed since an 18-year-old college student died after falling off its four-story roof, will not reopen, the Department of Consumer Protection announced Wednesday.

DCP said a representative of the Allyn Street bar contacted the agency on Wednesday to cancel its liquor permit, which it had voluntarily surrendered following the early-morning March 3 death of Taylor Lavoie, who was a freshman at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The license suspension was to expire March 24.

Since the incident, DCP said it has been investigating the bar’s security protocols. Meanwhile, Hartford police said they continue to investigate Lavoie’s death.

“We have many, many entertainment venues in our city that serve alcohol,” Deputy Chief Brian J. Foley said in a statement. “Working with the DCP, we will continue to scrutinize these venues to ensure they operate in accordance with state law and take appropriate action as necessary.”
