Baltimore manufacturer plans major expansion in Windsor

A Baltimore-based manufacturer of wood-framed construction products, Blueprint, plans to build a production facility in Windsor, the company announced.

The 450,000-square-foot facility, near the Interstate 91 corridor and Bradley International Airport, will have robotic-automation technology, according to the announcement.

The building will be constructed completely out of mass timber, said Blueprint co-founder and CEO Jerry Smalley.

The new facility will increase the company’s production capacity and give it the ability to produce large-scale mass timber components and large-scale Cross-Laminated Timber fabrication.

Blueprint’s facility in Baltimore is running at full capacity. The Windsor location will increase production capabilities by 250%, Smalley said.

The Windsor facility will allow Blueprint to meet the multifamily development industry’s demand for improved building science and sustainability, the company said.

Among the factors Blueprint considered in selecting the site were the available workforce, ease of distribution to the East Coast’s primary multi-family construction markets and the support infrastructure necessary for a facility of this scope, Smalley said.
