Hartford’s Back9Network, which creates golf lifestyle content for the web and is searching for a network television deal, said it has acquired the golf GPS mobile app Swing by Swing Golf.
Swing by Swing’s management team will become employees of Back9Network, but will continue to work from Palo Alto, Calif.
The free app, which offers additional paid capabilities, shows golfers how many yards they are from the green to help players select the right club. It contains more than 35,000 golf courses located across the world.
Swing by Swing has been downloaded more than 3 million times from the Apple and Android app stores, the company said.
Back9Network CFO Charles Cox said in a statement that the company hopes to double the app’s user base to more than 4 million over the next two years.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
