Back On Track

Looking to ease congestion on the state’s highways, state House Deputy Speaker David McCluskey is recommending that Connecticut’s freight rail lines get a facelift, with the goal to increase freight rail service.

McCluskey (D-West Hartford), now in his 11th year as a state legislator, wants the state to set aside bond money to upgrade the rail lines, many of which are sparsely used. Most of the lines are owned by the state and leased for use.

He also recently pushed for the New Haven-Springfield commuter line. In December, McCluskey slammed the state Department of Transportation for lack of progress in moving the line forward.
