Awareness campaign targets CT’s opioid and heroin epidemic

A new public awareness campaign has launched in Connecticut aimed at combating the opioid and heroin epidemic by reminding residents to safely store and dispose of medications.

The “Mind Your Meds” initiative is a collaboration between the Governor’s Prevention Partnership and several Connecticut state agencies, including the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).

The first part of the campaign comprises a 42-second public service announcement featuring a personal story from a family who has faced addiction. They describe their son’s addiction to prescription drugs, which led him to steal medications from family and friends.

The campaign also highlights the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 30, when collection sites across Connecticut will provide means of disposing unwanted prescription drugs.
