Avon’s Magellan launches GI hiring program

Magellan Health Services in Avon and other health care industry officials and government officials are due to be on hand Wednesday for Magellan’s launch of a program to put wounded soldiers to work in health care.

The “Hero Health Hire” initiative is aimed at the more than 40,000 service members – one in five of whom are estimated to suffer symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder or major depression.

In addition, Magellan has created a free employee assistance program that addresses the needs of “Wounded Warriors” who are transitioning into the workplace.

“Our nation’s veterans deserve the very best when they return home, particularly those Wounded Warriors who have made such a significant sacrifice for our country,” said Magellan Chairman  and CEO René Lerer, M.D., said in a statement. “The Hero Health Hire reflects a commitment from leaders in our industry to make our workplaces more accessible for these individuals and assist them in their transition as they overcome unique challenges.”
