A team of Avon high school students has won the privilege to compete in Atlanta next week for the national FIRST robotics championship.
Avon’s UberBots squad was part of the winning alliance, consisting of two other teams from New Jersey and Brazil, that came out on top at last weekend’s regional FIRST competition at the Connecticut Convention Center in downtown Hartford.
Fifty-six teams from six Northeast states and Brazil competed in the weekend tournament.
Northeast Utilities, United Technologies Corp., Stanley Black & Decker Corp. and others sponsored the regional event in which the Gearheads of Somerville, N.J. and Brazilian Machine of Porto Alegre, Brazil, also qualified to compete in the nationals April 14-17 at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
