Avelo re-launches daily service to Orlando from Tweed starting in June

Avelo Airlines announced Wednesday that it plans to boost its nonstop service to Orlando from Tweed New Haven Airport starting June 20.

Flights to Orlando will now take off seven days a week during the peak summer season, similar to last year’s expanded service to Florida vacation hotspots.

The low-cost carrier, which operates its Northeast hub in New Haven, will continue the increased service until Sept. 6, according to a company statement.

The number of flights to Orlando International Airport from New Haven will increase to 12 per week, Avelo said. Two flights a day will be offered on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy said, “With the return of Tuesdays and Wednesdays to our Orlando flight schedule, we now offer our customers the flexibility to fly between New Haven and sun-soaked Central Florida seven days per week.”

The airline announced two additional Florida destinations from Tweed to its schedule earlier this month, with Avelo service to Daytona Beach and Melbourne set to start June 21.

The comment period on Tweed operator Avports’ $100 million expansion plan to accommodate Avelo’s increased passenger numbers is scheduled to end on May 1, with a decision expected early this summer.
