Avelo begins nonstop service to Dominican Republic

The inaugural flight of Bradley Airport’s first service to the Dominican Republic departed Friday morning. Avelo Airlines will run the route to Punta Cana International Airport twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

The service marks Bradley’s third connection to the Caribbean. Avelo also flies to Cancun, Mexico and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

“The new nonstop route to the Dominican Republic will now provide travelers with a faster and more convenient journey to the popular Caribbean island,” said Michael W. Shea, the executive director of the Connecticut Airport Authority.

“Today, Avelo achieved another milestone as Connecticut’s hometown airline,” said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy. “We are excited to introduce an additional tropical Caribbean destination for Connecticut travelers.”

Avelo, which is headquartered at New Haven’s Tweed Airport, began adding routes at Bradley last year. It also currently connects Bradley with two destinations in North Carolina.
