Avelo Airlines announced Wednesday it plans to increase its flight frequency between Tweed New Haven Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina.
The low-cost airline indicated that an extra Tuesday flight to New Haven will now make RDU to New Haven a daily flight for Avelo’s customers.
The additional flight frequency between the North Carolina airport and New Haven will begin as of Sept. 12, according to Avelo.
Tweed Executive Director Thomas Rafter said of the change, “I think this is a win for Avelo, but especially for the residents of southern Connecticut.”Â
Tweed originally announced that Raleigh-Durham would become part of its roster of destinations in March 2022.
At the time, Avelo CEO Andrew Levy said he anticipated this route would attract not only leisure customers, but the business community, and he singled out Raleigh-Durham as a key destination for New Haven’s biotech companies.Â
Tweed has announced several new destinations in recent months, and customers can now fly between Tweed and several eastern U.S. airports, including in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, Illinois and Washington, D.C.
