• ConnectiCare in Farmington gave a $10,000 grant to the Malta House of Care mobile clinic in support of its program. The donation will be used to provide free health care to uninsured residents of Hartford.
• Trust House Family Learning Center in Hartford raised $20,000 at its Dream Dance gala held at The Hartford Club. The funds will support the education and family support programs provided by the organization.
• Mardi Hayden, respiratory therapist at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, was named a Professional of the Year in respiratory therapy by the Cambridge Who’s Who registry. Hayden was selected based on her accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership and service.
• The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation Inc. in Bloomfield received a 2008 Gold Quill Award in the publication design category from the International Association of Business Communicators. Fidelco was recognized for excellence in communication with its Road to Freedom and Independence annual report project.
• The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving awarded a $170,000 grant to the Charter Oak chapter of the American Red Cross in Farmington. The funds will support the purchase of new technology to aid in more efficient delivery of services in the community.
• The New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks received a $5,000 grant from Alstom Power Inc. for its SOAR for Science program in the Windsor Public Schools.
• Marge Piccini, president of MVP Mortgage in South Windsor, received a 2008 25 Home Ownership Partners Award from The First-Time HomeBuyer magazine. Piccini was recognized for creating home-ownership opportunities in the community.
• Robinson & Cole employees volunteered during the 20th anniversary AmeriCares HomeFront Day. Workers spent time on home improvement projects for a home in Bridgeport including painting the interior and exterior of the house, installing a new kitchen floor, repairing broken light fixtures and other work.
