A new audit raises questions about how the state Department of Environmental Protection manages a rental housing program for workers.
The Republican-American newspaper in Waterbury reported Friday that the audit found four cases of workers living in state-owned houses without leases. It also uncovered mistakes in rental payment deductions from employee paychecks.
Auditors also discovered that the DEP failed to submit most lease agreements to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal‘s office for approval.
The DEP says it has made changes to correct shortcomings that the General Assembly’s auditors of public accounts identified. Its central business office is now administering the rental housing program. (AP)
