Telecommunications giant AT&T will close its Waterbury customer information office and eliminate 71 positions in Connecticut, according to the union representing the workers.
The Communications Workers of America Local 1298 reported AT&T gave the union notice that the company had too many customer service employees in Connecticut and needed to close one of its three offices. The workers handle calls from customers using AT&T’s information line, and use has declined.
The impacted positions are 70 customer information specialist and one support person. The layoffs will take place in mid-December.
AT&T will keep its Hamden and New London customer information offices open.
