Asset management firm to add 40 jobs in Greenwich

Asset management firm Hudson Bay Capital is expanding its Greenwich offices, with plans to create 40 more jobs at the site.

The announcement came Thursday through the governor’s office, which said the state Department of Economic and Community Development will be supporting the company’s hiring with a grant in arrears of up to $1.3 million, contingent upon Hudson Bay Capital creating and retaining those 40 new positions.

“I am glad that as their company continues to grow, they’ve selected Connecticut as the location where they will create these new jobs,” Gov. Ned Lamont said in a statement. “Business confidence continues to rise in Connecticut, and we are building on that momentum by continuing to exercise fiscal discipline and making the strategic investments that are necessary to attract new jobs.”

Hudson Bay Capital, which is headquartered in New York City, has offices at 28 Havemeyer Place in Greenwich. With the new positions factored in, the Greenwich branch will eventually have around 50 employees, according to company officials.

CEO and Chief Investment Officer Sander Gerber said the firm chose to expand operations in Connecticut because of the state’s “infrastructure, proximity to metropolitan areas and commitment to business.”

“Governor Lamont’s mission of job creation resonates with our own and we look forward to welcoming new, intellectually curious, team-oriented individuals to our Greenwich office,” Gerber said.

Southern Fairfield County has seen a boom in finance and tech companies either relocating to or adding jobs in the area over the last year, many with assistance from the state.

In November, Digital Currency Group, an investor in bitcoin and blockchain technology companies, announced plans to relocate its headquarters from New York City to Stamford, a move expected to create over 300 jobs over the next five years.
